Golden State Survives Late Push, Defeats Houston 105-98

In a hard-fought battle at Houston’s Toyota Center, the Golden State Warriors secured a 105-98 victory over the Houston Rockets on Thursday, February 13, 2025. The Warriors, concluding a grueling six-game, nine-day road trip, managed to fend off a spirited comeback by the Rockets to enter the All-Star break on a high note.

Golden State’s offense was spearheaded by Stephen Curry, who delivered a game-high 27 points. His performance was complemented by Jimmy Butler’s 19 points, including a pivotal dunk and crucial free throws in the closing moments. Rookie Brandin Podziemski also made a significant contribution, adding 18 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

The Warriors established a commanding 24-point lead in the third quarter, with the scoreboard reading 81-57. However, the Rockets’ bench players ignited a formidable rally, orchestrating a 29-7 run that narrowed the gap to just two points. Aaron Holiday was instrumental in this surge, tying his career-high with 25 points. Two-way player Nate Williams also provided a boost, scoring all 11 of his points in the second half.

Despite the mounting pressure, Curry’s composure was evident. He drained two critical three-pointers in the fourth quarter, effectively quelling the Rockets’ momentum and securing the win for Golden State.

The Warriors’ defense played a crucial role in building their early lead. By forcing 12 turnovers in the first half, they disrupted Houston’s offensive rhythm and capitalized on the Rockets’ mistakes. This defensive intensity was a key factor in their 62-48 advantage at halftime.

On the Rockets’ side, Alperen Şengün was the only starter to score in double figures, contributing 10 points and 13 rebounds. The team has been grappling with injuries to key players, including Fred VanVleet, who missed his seventh consecutive game due to an ankle injury, and Jabari Smith Jr., sidelined since New Year’s with a fractured hand. Despite these setbacks, the Rockets remain in a playoff position in the Western Conference and aim to regroup during the All-Star break.

For the Warriors, this victory not only concluded their road trip on a positive note but also provided momentum as they head into the All-Star break. They currently hold a 28-27 record, placing them 10th in the Western Conference standings, trailing the Los Angeles Clippers by 3.5 games for the sixth spot.

Looking ahead, Golden State will resume action on February 21, hosting the Sacramento Kings. The team will look to build on this victory and continue their push up the Western Conference standings.
