Russel Henley Eagles 16th to take Arnold Palmer Invitational Trophy

Orlando, FL – After running in second place for most of the day, Russell Henley passed Collin Morikawa late in the fourth round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill to win the tournament.

The tournament is a staple on the Florida swing of the PGA Tour, and this year’s tourney saw multiple movements on the leaderboard.

Wyndham Clark and Shane Lowry faded after strong rounds early in the week. Sunday pitted Americans Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa against each other.

Morikawa started the day with a one-shot lead over Henley, looking for his first win since October 2023. He played solid golf all day, making three birdies and three bogeys to shoot even par.

Henley struggled out of the gate, bogeying the first two par-fives to fall further behind the lead. A birdie at 8 was quickly followed by a bogey on 10. But two birdies on 12 and 14 brought him to within one stroke. Morikawa was steady but showed some cracks down the stretch when Henley’s approach shot on 16 went right. That’s when Henley chipped in for eagle, flipping the tournament on its head. Two pars to finish secured the Arnold Palmer title.

That marked his first win on Tour since the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship, and ended a stretch where he’d racked up 10 top-10 finishes since the start of the 2024 campaign. That was the most on the PGA Tour in that timespan without a win.

Both players parred the 17th, and then Henley held on to win at the last.

The win also earned Henley a $4 million payday, more than doubling his current earnings on the season.

“It’s unbelievable,” Henley said on NBC. “Hats off to Collin, he played great today. He played super steady. Sometimes golf is just mean like that.”

The PGA Tour moves on to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL for The Players Championship at Sawgrass, March 14-17.
