2024 Pro Bowl selections announced and there are some interesting snubs

The NFL Pro Bowl rosters were unveiled on Wednesday, setting the scene for the trimmed-down event slated to occur in Orlando ahead of the Super Bowl. Leading the pack, the NFC-topping San Francisco 49ers secured nine selections, while the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys closely followed with seven each. Brock Purdy and Tua Tagovailoa are slated to take the quarterback starting positions, flanked by MVP frontrunner Lamar Jackson, Matthew Stafford, Dak Prescott, and Patrick Mahomes as substitutes.

Notably, five rookies clinched spots in the game: Puka Nacua from the Los Angeles Rams, Sam LaPorta from the Detroit Lions, Denzel Mims from the Denver Broncos (serving as both wide receiver and kick returner), Brandon Aubrey, kicker for the Cowboys, and Devon Witherspoon, cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks.

The comprehensive rosters, with reserves emphasized, herald the Pro Bowl’s scheduling on Feb. 1 and 4, featuring flag football matchups and skill competitions.

The rosters also underscored a stark reality of this season: the New England Patriots find themselves distanced from their former Tom Brady-era glory. ESPN’s Mike Reiss noted the absence of any Patriots member from the AFC roster, an occurrence unseen since 2000. Additionally, the Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers, and Washington Commanders were similarly absent, though they could still potentially see players enter as replacements.

Among the noticeable omissions were quarterback Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, safety Geno Stone from the Baltimore Ravens, and defensive lineman DeMarcus Lawrence of the Dallas Cowboys.
