ORLANDO, FL – The Orlando Magic officially announced the addition of guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to the team on July 6th at the Advent Health Training Center.

Orlando Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman made the announcement, praising KCP’s character, defensive prowess, and championship experience.

“We are thrilled to add a player like Kentavious (Caldwell-Pope) to our team,” said Weltman. “He is not only an outstanding defender and an excellent shooter, but he also brings high character and a championship pedigree to our backcourt. We’re very excited to welcome Kentavious to the Orlando Magic family.”

The two-time NBA Champion started 76 games per year for the Denver Nuggets. KCP was a stellar defender for the Nuggets, holding opponents to under 40% shooting when he covered them last season.

A former lottery pick of the Detroit Pistons, Caldwell-Pope has shot 39% or better from 3-point range for each of the last four seasons while performing strong perimeter defense.

Caldwell-Pope won NBA Championships with the Denver Nuggets in the 2022-23 season and as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2019-20 season, during the NBA bubble.

Adding KCP gives Orlando’s young core of Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs championship experience on the roster, as well as defensive perimeter strength and much-needed shooting improvements.

The Orlando Magic also formally signed Franz Wagner, Moritz Wagner, and Gary Harris to their deal extensions this week.

As Weltman and KCP spoke, Anthony Black was doing shooting drills on the practice floor, getting ready for the NBA.
