Orlando City dominates the NY Red Bulls 5-1 to get into US Cup finals

Orlando win takes to their first ever US Cup finals

ORLANDO, FL -Orlando City SC defeated the New York Red Bulls handily, with a 5-1 drubbing at Exploria Stadium on Wednesday night.

New York opened the scoring in first half stoppage with, then Patrick Klimala sent in a cross to Aaron Long for the fist goal.

Orlando continued to hit the back of the net, with an equalizing goal in the first half by Carlos Araujo (45+4′), and four goals in the second half by Mauricio Pereyra (47′), Carlos Araujo again (62′), Benji Michel (83′), and two by Facundo Torres (75′, 83′).

The win is the first semifinal win in the US Cup in Orlando’s team history, and will be their first trip to the finals. Orlando awaits the winner of the match between the Sacramento Republic FC and Sporting Kansas City FC later on Wednesday night.

The finals match will take place on September 7th in Orlando.

New York came into the match on Wednesday as the favorites to win the match due to the strength of their performance this season. The Red Bulls are third in the MLS standings and have stronger stats in post super game over Orlando (1.64 vs 1.36)and are one of the seasons elite teams.

The Red Bulls started the game aggressively, attacking balls and working with a solid footing and crisp passes.

Orlando managed to hold posession of the ball through the match with 65%, but that did not stop New York from shooting 10 total shots in the first half compared to Orlando’s 6, with 3 on target compared to only 1 for the Lions.

The refs were pretty lenient on fouls in early play, but would up issuing 7 yellow cards in the match.

We’ll keep our heads in the right place, try to be more consistent and score those goals that will give us points. Tonight we want to enjoy this great moment for our fans and for our Club, taking the Club to a second final, and hopefully we can give them this trophy.”
