Orlando City scores last minute goal for 1-0 win in Toronto.
TORONTO, CANADA – Orlando City SC (6-4-2, 20 points) managed to take home three points with a second-half stoppage time goal for a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon over Toronto FC (3-7-2, 11 points).
In the 92nd minute, Alexander Pato sent a corner kick into the area that Kyle Smith headed into the net, winning the match for Orlando.
“Congratulations to the players today in such an important match in a difficult place. With that personality and the collectiveness that we are pursuing in this project, we saw it today. Everybody participated in doing the job. I like the way they controlled the game the whole time against a young, good team. I think we imposed our freedoms and what we look for. We came here to win and the victory is ours and we are very pleased and happy.”
The goal was Smith’s first of the year and only his second with the Lions.
With the clean sheet, Orlando Goalkeeper Pedro Gallese has his sixth of the season and leads the MLS Eastern Conference in clean sheets.
The loss is the fifth in the row for Toronto, with the last three coming by shutouts. It is also their second late game loss since the Vancouver Whitecaps scored to win against them in the 90th minute in their last game.
Orlando managed seven shots in the first 45 minutes but only one was on goal while Toronto had one of its three attempts reach the goal.
Orlando travels to Texas to face Austin FC on Sunday May 22nd.
