Montreal came out on top in tonight’s match 1-0 over CD Olimpia of Honduras, but lost on aggregate due to a 2-1 Olimpia win in March in Montreal this year.
The win advances Olimpia into the semi Final round in the tournament, which is being continued after being postponed earlier in the year due to COVID-19 concerns.
The temas played in an empty stadium, as over 100 Olimpia fans rallied and played drums oustide of the stadium before and during the match.
Montreal got the first off a second-half strike from Amar Sejdic in the 57th minute, but the Impact failed to score the second needed goal to advance.
Tigres Easily Handle Short Handed NYCFC
Tigres UANL (Mex) easily handled NYCFC 3-0 in the late match, becoming the second team in this year’ match to move on.
The Men in Yellow had contributions from Andre-Pierre Gignac, his 40t for the team, and 11th in Concacaf play. Gignac took a nicely placed cross and headed in a rifle shot past the New York Goalkeeper.
Later, Tigres had goals scored by Leonard Fernandez, Raphael Carioca, and Javier Aquino for a 4-0 score before the end of regulation.
Tigre moves on to the semifinal round after the victory, and will wait to face either LACF or Cruz Azul on Saturday, December 19th.
