USNWT defeats Argentina 6-0 to win SheBelieves Cup. Brazil defeats Canada 2-0
ORLANDO – The United States Women’s National Soccer Team defeated Argentina 6-0 to clinch the SheBelieves Cup at Exploria Stadium in Orlando Florida.
Alex Morgan scored her first goal since the “Tea Cup” celebration incident in the 2019 World Cup play and, more notably, the first since the birth of her daughter Charlie.
The US defeated Canada, Brazil, and then Argentina for the win, their second consecutive SheBelieves cup win. The U.S. extended its win streak to 30 matches spanning more than two years.
The US squad had goals from Mega Rapinoe in the 15th minute, and 26th minute as the Americans pressed the Argentine defense back into their half immediately.
Carli Lloyd, who set up Rapinoe for her second goal, had the favor was returned by Rapinoe in the 35th minute, spinning a ball between a defender’s legs to set up Lloyd for a goal.
Kristie Mewis scored the 4th goal in the 41st minute to end the first half scoring.
The US scored in the second half, when Morgan was substituted in and after several close chances, in the 84th minute, she drove through the defense and left-footed the ball in for her first international goal insincerity’s 2019.
“To say it’s been a long time is an understatement,” Morgan said. “It’s been over 500 days,so you guys don’t have to sugar-coat it. But I’m very excited to get my first goal back with the national team and join the list of moms on the team who have scored goals and played as a national-team player. I just want to be an example for other female athletes who are moms or want to become moms knowing that they still belong in the game. … Tonight was the first step of that.”
Christen Press scored in the 88th minute to seal the 6-0 win.
Brazil Defeats Canada
Brazil defeated Canada 2-0 on the final day of the 2021 SheBelieves Cup. Brazil had goals scored by Debora in the 1th minute, and Julia in the 39th minute.
The Cup competition ends with the USA first with 9 points, Brazil in second with 6 points, followed by Canada (3 points), and Argentine (0 points).
The Cup competition helps teams prepare for the upcoming 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, helping US manager Vlad Andonovski decide who who will be on the roster.
“Selecting the roster is a is an ongoing process in everything that we do in campus in training in games. Everything that they’re going to do in the games and clubs is is going to be important” said Andonovski. “A lot of things come in, come in play and I’ve explained this before from the, from the performance health fitness fit will fit on the team position that they play. As we go forward. I’m sure that I’m going to have more answers or more clear answers, but right now we’re still evaluating everyone, and we’re still in the list is still a pretty pretty big I guess in compared to 18.”
