With her recently released album ‘Folklore’ the American singer Taylor Swift has broken the record of most Billboard Hot 100 entries among women artists. With 113 hits Swift holds the highest number of entries in the 62 year’s history of the list.
The results were announced on August 3 as she left behind rapper Nicki Minaj with three songs. Before Swift, the position was held by Monster rapper Nicki Minaj after she surpassed Aretha Franklin back in 2017.
According to the Billboard 11 songs from the newly released album ‘Folklore’ made it to the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. Out of these eleven eight songs acquired the positions in the top 10.
With this major hit, Taylor Swift has become the fourth out of the six artists who hold the majority of Hot 100 entries. The first position is held by Drake who has 224 entries; Drake is followed by Glee with 207 entries and on the third comes Lil Wayne with his 169 entries. Swift now holds the fourth place 113 hits. On the fifth lies future with 111 followed by 110 of Nicki Minaj.
The ‘Folklore’ came out of the blue and now is being acclaimed as one of the best albums of the time. Album’s lead single ‘cardigan’ provided with the trust needed to break the records. The lead single debuted at the top of Hot 100 charts. This victory made Billboard say that this is the first time any artist has managed to do so.
Additionally, the album has managed to break many more records. On Spotify, the album received the highest ever tally received by a female artist. The album received 80.6 million streams in a single day. Furthermore, Swift has become the first-ever singer in US history to have sold more than 500,000 copies of an album in a single week.
In Ireland Swift now hold five albums that rest on the number one position. This is an achievement that has not been achieved by any other female artist. The album has also bought Swift with the best reviews of her careers with an average of 86%.
The ‘folklore was a secret project taken by Swift during quarantine and not even her manager knew about it. Perhaps it was the surprise that bought so much fame for this album.
Recently, Swift has also been in the news as she donated 23,000 pounds to a London based student to help her cover the finance of her studies. This has bought huge applause to Swift as she is known for doing such community work.
2020 has been a bad year but for Swift, it has been a wonderful one. The American signer managed to break a lot of records with a single album. The album is rightly being quoted as the best of Swift’s career.
