Sources told ESPN that certain NBA teams would begin opening their facilities for voluntary workouts as well as orchestrating tests for players and staff that are asymptomatic to the coronavirus.
This past Friday, May 8th, the following teams got the green light to begin the process, the Portland Trailblazers, Denver Nuggets, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Orlando Magic.
Many of the other NBA teams are opting to follow the guidelines of their given state. A few reports state that some team facilities will remain closed towards the latter portion of May.
The Chicago Bulls stay-at-home orders are in effect until May 30th and they are electing to take instruction from the league as well as the authorities.
The Golden State Warriors stay at home orders are in effect until May 31st but have stated that the earliest they are looking to reopen their facilities is June 1st. Most other teams are following their state’s stay-at-home orders that range between May 15th to May 18th.
Upon the 2019-2020 NBA returning, Commissioner Adam Silver stated that players and staff would be regularly tested. As testing kits become more readily available the NBA expects they will need approximately 15,000 tests to resume, per ESPN Senior Insider Adrian Wojnarowski.
The NBA is taking its time putting together a plan that has the highest rate of success for continuing the 2019-2020 season. While the NBA has not yet fully returned, the process to bring this season back, has begun.
