NFL rookie from Central Florida pays for 60 layaways at store
An NFL rookie from Ocala, inspired by a basketball player’s generosity, decided to do his own good deed by paying for 60 layaways at a Burlington Coat Factory, news outlets reported.
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III partnered with the nonprofit “Pay Away the Layaway” foundation, the Ocala Star Banner newspaper reported.
Some estimates put the amount of Gilbert’s generosity at more than $15,000, although that wasn’t confirmed by officials at the store location at the Shady Oaks Shopping Center southwest of town.
One recipient, Sherita Graham, told the newspaper Gilbert paid for nearly $500 worth of her grandchildren’s presents.
