Matt Miazga, Ian Harkes Fined by MLS Disciplinary Committee After Matchday 19

Cincinnati defender penalized for simulation; San Jose midfielder fined for delay in exiting pitch

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has announced fines for two players following infractions during Matchday 19 of the 2025 season.

FC Cincinnati center back Matt Miazga has been fined for violating the league’s policy on simulation and embellishment during stoppage time (92nd minute) of the club’s match against the New England Revolution. The incident drew attention for appearing to exaggerate contact in an attempt to influence the referee’s decision.

Additionally, San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Ian Harkes has been fined after failing to leave the field in a timely manner following a substitution in the 52nd minute of San Jose’s clash with the Portland Timbers. The league deemed the delay unsporting and in violation of match conduct standards.

The league has not disclosed the specific amount of either fine, in line with standard MLS policy.

These rulings highlight Major League Soccer’s ongoing emphasis on player conduct and match integrity as the season moves into its second half.
