Sam Surridge’s Four-Goal Masterclass Earns MLS Player of the Matchday Honors

Sam Surridge delivered a historic performance for Nashville SC, and the league took notice.

After scoring an incredible four goals in Nashville’s emphatic 7-2 victory over Chicago Fire FC, Surridge has been named the MLS Player of the Matchday for Matchday 10, presented by Michelob Ultra. It marks his first career Player of the Matchday award and the first for a Nashville player since Randall Leal in 2023.

A Night for the Record Books

Surridge’s feat wasn’t just memorable — it was historic:

  • First player in Nashville SC history to score four goals in a single match

  • 19th player in MLS history to accomplish the “poker” (four goals) in a game

  • Second player this season to net four, joining Vancouver’s Brian White (Matchday 8)

Surridge wasted no time, recording two braces in the first half alone. Nashville piled on five goals in the first 45 minutes, becoming just the fifth team in MLS history to score five times in one half, and the first to do so since Philadelphia Union’s 7-0 demolition of D.C. United in July 2022.

Surridge now joins Nashville star Hany Mukhtar as the only two players in club history with multiple MLS hat tricks — Mukhtar has four, Surridge now has two.

Momentum Rolling into Atlanta

Fresh off their seven-goal explosion, Surridge and Nashville look to keep their hot streak alive with a road trip to face Atlanta United on Saturday (2:45 p.m. ET | MLS Season Pass on Apple TV+, FOX, FOX Deportes).

Surridge’s red-hot form could be exactly what Nashville needs as they aim to climb the Eastern Conference standings.

Recognition by the Numbers

The MLS Player of the Matchday is decided by a combination of media and fan votes:

  • 75% media vote (North American Soccer Reporters)

  • 25% fan vote (Instagram voting)

Surridge’s dominant outing left no doubt among voters — a performance this brilliant simply couldn’t be ignored.

If Nashville’s No. 9 keeps firing like this, more accolades could soon follow.
