LA 2028 Sets the Stage: Dodgers Stadium, Venice Beach, and Hollywood Lights Among Olympic Venues

Baseball at Dodger Stadium, triathlon at Venice Beach, and surfing in San Clemente headline the dynamic and diverse venue plan for the 2028 Summer Games.

The countdown to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles just got a lot more real. On Tuesday, organizers unveiled a star-studded list of venues that will turn the greater LA area into a global sports stage — blending iconic city landmarks, beachside beauty, and even movie magic.

Leading the announcements was the confirmation that Dodger Stadium, home of the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, will host Olympic baseball, bringing America’s pastime to one of its most legendary venues. The decision is a nod to both the sport’s deep roots in LA and the city’s ability to stage world-class events in style.

Not far away, athletes in peak physical form will race, ride, and swim through Venice Beach as triathlon takes to the vibrant, sun-soaked coast. The bustling boardwalk and fitness culture of Venice make it a natural fit for this grueling, multi-discipline event.

Surfers will make their Olympic push down the coast at Trestles Beach in San Clemente, about 65 miles south of Los Angeles. Known for its consistent, high-quality waves, Trestles offers a much more local — and logistically convenient — setting compared to the 2024 Paris Games, where surfing took place thousands of miles away in Tahiti.

“We knew that any solution for LA had to feature the best performance waves, and there is no doubt that location is Trestles,” said Fernando Aguerre, president of the International Surfing Association. The spot is revered among surf pros for its ideal conditions and now will get its moment on the Olympic stage.

But the action doesn’t stop at the beach. Alamitos Beach will host beach volleyball, continuing the legacy of iconic California coastal volleyball scenes. The game that once played out in Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach now shifts slightly south but keeps its sunny roots intact.

In a splash of Hollywood flair, squash — making its Olympic debut in 2028 — will be played at Universal Studios Lot, delivering high-stakes competition in a setting more used to blockbusters than backhands. The glitz of LA entertainment blends seamlessly with the grit of elite athletic performance.

Cricket returns to the Olympics for the first time since 1900 and will take place at the Fairgrounds in Pomona, far from central LA but key to the Games’ sprawling footprint. Anaheim, known for Disneyland and past Olympic history, will take on volleyball duties this time around.

Boxing, back in the Olympic lineup, will host early-round matches at the Peacock Theatre, with finals set for the Arena in downtown LA — another effort to embed the Games within the city’s existing infrastructure and culture.

“With these venues, we’re showing the world the best of Los Angeles,” said LA Mayor Karen Bass. “From the coast to the city center, this Olympics will represent the diversity, energy, and creativity of our region.”

The 2028 Summer Olympics will be held from July 14 to 30, and when they begin, Los Angeles will become just the third city in history — after London and Paris — to host the Summer Games three times.

From sun-splashed beaches to historic ballparks and backlots turned battlegrounds, the 2028 Olympics are shaping up to be a uniquely LA experience — a showcase of sport, scenery, and showbiz on the world’s biggest stage.
