Houston Dynamo Extend Erik Sviatchenko Through 2026
Houston Dynamo FC have locked down a key leader in their backline, announcing Tuesday that center back Erik Sviatchenko has signed a contract extension through the 2026 season, with a club option for 2027.
Veteran Presence Anchors Defense
The 33-year-old former Danish international has been a consistent force since arriving from FC Midtjylland in 2023. In 78 appearances across all competitions for Houston, Sviatchenko has tallied:
-
2 goals
-
3 assists
-
A pivotal role in winning the 2023 US Open Cup
He has emerged as a defensive cornerstone and now serves as a veteran anchor alongside newcomer Femi Awodesu, following the club-record sale of Micael to Palmeiras in Brazil.
Club and Player Aligned
Dynamo president Pat Onstad praised the extension:
“Erik has been a stalwart at the center of our defense since arriving in Houston… a key contributor to our success.”
Sviatchenko, clearly invested in the project, added:
“Houston has been home for me and my family, and I truly believe in what we are building… I look forward to pushing for a return to the playoffs and building on our winning culture.”
Playoff Push Ahead
Despite sitting 13th in the Western Conference, Houston are unbeaten in their last four matches and are beginning to build momentum. With Sviatchenko locked in through 2026, the Dynamo have retained a vocal leader, both on the pitch and in the locker room.
