Jazz Outlast Magic in Game of Absences
ORLANDO, Fl — The Utah Jazz, playing without several key players, defeated the Orlando Magic 105-92 Sunday.
“It was a great team win,” Jazz coach Will Hardy said. “We had a lot of guys step up tonight.”
Jett Howard led Orlando (21-16) with a career-high 21 points. Wendell Carter Jr. added 15.
Both teams were dealing with significant absences. The Jazz were without Lauri Markkanen (hamstring), John Collins (illness), Keyonte George (foot) and Jordan Clarkson (back). The Magic played without Paolo Banchero (ankle), Franz Wagner (ankle), Moritz Wagner (rib) and Jalen Suggs (wrist).
“It’s tough when you’re missing that many guys,” Magic coach Jamahl Mosley said. “But it’s an opportunity for other guys to step up and show what they can do.”
The game was tied 43-43 at halftime, but the Jazz outscored the Magic 31-23 in the third quarter to take control.
Utah shot 46.7% from the field and made 13 of 33 3-pointers. Orlando shot just 36% and was 10 of 33 from beyond the arc. The Jazz also outrebounded the Magic 62-51.
The Jazz have won two straight after defeating Miami on Friday. The Magic have lost two of three.
Jazz: Walker Kessler had 11 points and 14 rebounds. … Ochai Agbaji added 11 points. … The Jazz had 31 assists on 40 field goals.
Magic: Cole Anthony scored 13 points. … Jonathan Isaac had 10 points and eight rebounds.
