Elton John Shares Heartbreaking Struggle With Vision Loss After Severe Eye Infection

LONDON (AP) — Elton John, the iconic pop superstar, revealed on Sunday that he has lost his sight following a severe eye infection earlier this year. Speaking to a packed audience at the opening of “The Devil Wears Prada” musical at London’s Dominion Theatre, John shared an emotional update about his health and his ongoing challenges.

“I haven’t been able to come to many previews because, as you know, I’ve lost my eyesight, so it’s hard for me to see it,” the 77-year-old music legend said. “But I love to hear it, and it sounded quite good tonight.”

John, who composed the score for the new musical adaptation of the hit 2006 film, expressed gratitude to his audience and his husband, David Furnish, whom he called his “rock.”

The star first disclosed his struggles in September, explaining that an infection had left him with only limited vision in one eye. While there is hope for recovery, John admitted that his current condition prevents him from reading lyrics, watching performances, or working in the studio.

This health setback comes as John transitions into life post-tour. After completing his *Farewell Yellow Brick Road* tour in 2023, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer achieved the prestigious EGOT status earlier this year, securing an Emmy for his live farewell concert.

Despite his challenges, John remains optimistic. His upcoming documentary, *Elton John: Never Too Late,* premiering December 13, offers an intimate look at his career and personal life.

“I’m the luckiest man in the world,” John said in a recent interview, reflecting on his family and legacy.

As fans rallied around him, the evening was a bittersweet testament to resilience, artistry, and the enduring spirit of one of music’s greatest icons.
