Mission Accomplished: Lakers Sign Bronny James, LeBron Will Play With His Son

Sure, here’s the proofread version:

Brooklyn, NY – The Los Angeles Lakers picked LeBron James Jr., aka Bronny James, from USC, completing a mission for NBA superstar LeBron James to play on the same team as his son.

James has stated long ago that one of his dreams was to be able to play on the same team as his son.

When Bronny James takes the court for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, LeBron James will become the fourth father to play on the same team as his son at the top level of American professional sports.

The Lakers selected Bronny with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft in a move that was speculated for months but seemingly calculated for a while.

Bronny declared for the draft after a tough freshman season at USC. He missed the start of the season due to a heart issue and averaged less than five points in 25 games. The fact that Bronny’s season was cut short due to a frightening cardiac arrest makes this pairing all the more special for LeBron.

With LeBron opting into the last year of his deal with the Lakers and turning 40 in December, the chance for the Lakers to pair Bronny and the NBA’s biggest star was too enticing to pass up.

The Jameses will join Gordie Howe and his sons Mark and Marty, Tim Raines and Tim Raines Jr., and Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. as the only other father/son combinations in any of the big four leagues’ modern histories. Here’s a brief look at how the Howes and Griffeys fared together.

During the second-round broadcast, ESPN’s Bob Myers reported that James family agent Rich Paul is telling teams Bronny doesn’t want to play for not to draft him, or he’ll go play in Australia instead.

With LeBron having an open window about his future, the Lakers, as usual, will do whatever it takes to keep the legendary forward on their roster, so this pick comes as no surprise.

The question is, is Bronny James NBA ready? Many of the sports talking heads say no, he has a long way to go, but nonetheless, he’s officially here, and he’s a member of the Lakers.
