Louis Gossett Jr., an iconic figure in American cinema and television, whose groundbreaking achievements paved the way for generations of Black actors, has passed away at the age of 87. Renowned as the first Black man to secure an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and acclaimed for his role in the seminal TV miniseries “Roots,” Gossett’s legacy is indelibly etched in the annals of entertainment history.
