The USAMNT Defeats El Salvador 1-0. Advance in CONCACAF Nations League Tourney
ORLANDO, FL – The US Men’s National Soccer team defeated the El Salvador National Team 1-0 in front of a races crowd at Exploria Stadium this week.
The lone goal of the match was scored by Ricardo Pepi just two minutes after he came onto the pitch in the second half. The goal is Pepi’s third in the past four matches.
With the win, Team USA finished atop Group D of the CONCACAF Nations League Tournament, and extended the US’s winning streak over El Salvador to 22 games.
Having won the inaugural CNL in 2021, the USA will return to the 2022-23 semifinals which will be played Thursday, June 15 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The US joins Mexico as confirmed for the semifinals.
The other semifinalists will be decided on Tuesday, March 28 when Costa Rica and Panama meet for the top spot in Group B and Canada hosts Honduras with Group C on the line. The group winner with the most points will face the fourth-ranked team, and the second and third ranked teams will meet in the other semifinal.
The USA-ElSalvador game was a homecoming for striker Daryl Dike, formerly of the MLS’s Orlando City SC. He was welcomed back warmly.
Anthony Hudson made seven changes to the Starting XI that defeated Grenada on Friday, inserting defenders Sergiño Dest, Antonee Robinson, Miles Robinson and Tim Ream, midfielder Yunus Musah, and forwards Daryl Dike and Alex Zendejas.
The US faces off against Mexico on June 15th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
