Millonarios defeats América de Cali in the Colombian Classic in the first Daytona Soccerfest
Daytona Beach, Fla (July 2, 2022) – The Colombian Classic brought the best of South American soccer to DAYTONA Soccer Fest, a one-of-a-kind event including world-class entertainment and professional soccer to the iconic venue known for the annual DAYTONA 500 race.
In a vibrant clash, Millonarios came out on top against América de Cali by a scoreline of 2-1. Luis Ruiz scored the first goal at 9 minutes but before the end of the first half, Marlón Torres tied the match with an amazing goal. In the second half, David Silva scored the second goal for Millonarios with a shot from outside the area. América de Cali tried to tie the match but couldn’t beat Alvaro Montero. Millonarios controlled most of the second half until the end of the game.
In the opening event, the World Freestyle Soccer Association presented its first ever WFFA U.S. Open. This event was established by leading freestylers to develop, support and structure this exciting culture and sport. The match featured 35 players from 12 countries who participated in the qualifying stage and will compete this Sunday for the chance to be crowned the U.S. Open champion.
Fans were also able to enjoy the ‘Original Challenge’, an inclusive and international soccer project in which several teams formed by players with intellectual disabilities participated. Fundació Barça and Gimnàstic de Tarragona – two teams belonging to LaLiga Genuine Santander – and Orlando City, a local team played a triangular match held to raise awareness and normalize the practice of sports for this group.
Day one kicked off with a panel discussion about the inclusion and integration in sports of people with disabilities. Different sports entities, clubs, organizations, and companies joined the conversation.
A concert by Latin artists Los Totora added excitement to day one of this inaugural event. Adassa and Rauw Alejandro perform in the evening, wrapping the first day of the Daytona Soccer Fest.
