Orlando Pride clean house with trades of major stars Ali Krieger, and Ashlyn Harris. Alex Morgan is next.
ORLANDO, FL – The Orlando Pride are making moves heading into the 2022 NWLS season.
The sports media is abuzz with Orlando trading defender Ali Krieger and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris to Gotham NJ/NY, according to Meg Lineman of The Athletic.
In return, the Pride have received a 2022 NWSL Draft first-round selection, a 2023 NWSL Draft natural third-round pick and $50,000 in Allocation Money. The 2022 pick is the one that Gotham received from the Chicago Red Stars in a previous trade, with the pick number to be officially locked in at 8 p.m. Dec. 17.
Then Lineman has also reported that the Pride are in talks to trade premier striker Alex Morgan to San Diego Wave FC, a new expansion team.
Morgan will join the Pride when the trade window reopens on Dec. 17, per Linehan. It’s currently unclear what Orlando will receive in return for the USWNT star.
The Wave will kick off their inaugural season in 2022.
Harris has been with Orlando since 2016 and was selected as part of the 2016 expansion draft after previously playing with the Washington Spirit, among other clubs. With Orlando, she appeared in 81 contests. She was also part of the 2015 and 2019 Women’s World Cup-winning teams, playing in 18 international matches while serving as a top back-up behind Hope Solo and Alyssa Naeher.
Krieger, who is Harris’s wife, had been with Orlando since 2017. She has appeared in 78 contests for the Pride, making the NWSL’s Best XI in both 2017 and 2019. She started playing for the U.S. in 2008 and also was part of the two World Cup-winning sides, earning 108 caps in all.
