Jay Z Changes His Name
Mogul and legendary rapper Jay Z is changing his name, or maybe you could call it a refinement.
Jay Z is changing his name to … JAY-Z.
Shawn Carter, his real name, is going ALL CAPS and bringing back the dash just in time for for his new project “4:44” to drop on June 30. Here’s the key, the new project is available on June 30 for Tidal streaming service subscribers only.
The hip-hop mogul’s spokesperson didn’t have a comment for why JAY-Z decided to make the name change — but it’s not the first time he’s altered his title.
He originally went by Jay-Z (lower case letters with a hyphen) before ditching the hyphen after he came out with his most recent album to date, “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” in 2013.
JAY-Z promoted his new album on Twitter this week by stylizing his name JAY:Z to match up with the “4:44” title.
In addition to the seemingly out-of-the-blue name change and new album announcement, his wife Beyoncé gave birth to twins last week in Los Angeles.
