Grammy’s Move Fast To Dodge Diversity Bullet

The 58th Annual Grammy Awards were about to finalize the awards show when it was brought to their attention that they made a huge oversight. Tonight’s awards had planned to do a tribute segment to artists that had died in the past year. An all white Artist tribute.

The plan was to have Lady Gaga perform a tribute to David Bowie, Jackson Browne honor Glenn Frey, and Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp memorialize Lemmy from Motörhead during Monday’s telecast, but they relegated Earth,Wind, & Fire founder  Maurice White and singer Natalie Cole to the video tribute section. To make matters worse, rap group Run-D.M.C. will receive a lifetime achievement award — but it won’t be televised.

With the Oscars going through an embarrassing diversity problem, It’s incredible that the Grammy’s would make this mistake also. People were furious.

But they did some quick thinking and announced that Stevie Wonder and a capella group Pentatonic will pay tribute to White with the other performances, for one minute.

Lady Gaga is going to perform a 10-song tribute to honor Bowie.

The 58th Annual Grammy Awards air tonight at 8pm eat. on CBS.
