Terminally Ill Fan Dies After Getting Final Star Wars Wish
Daniel Fleetwood succumbed to spindle cell sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. It was four days after he was allowed to see the newest episode of the Star Wars saga, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
Daniel found out that he only had 2 months to live in September, after a long battle with cancer. Knowing that he likely wouldn’t make it to Dec. 18 — when the latest installment in the “Star Wars” franchise is released — he told a local Texas TV crew that he needed to see the movie before he passed away.
His wife, Ashley, also started a #forcefordaniel hashtag that became so popular it was ‘liked’ by Mark Hamil (Luke Skywalker in Star Wars 4: A New Hope).
On Nov. 5, Disney set up a private screening of the unedited version of the movie at Fleetwood’s home.
“Today the wonderful Disney and Lucasfilms made his final dream come true, in the amazing typical Disney way, they really do make dreams come true,” Ashley wrote.
